Food is good. I go here sometimes to get the chicken teriyaki meal for lunch. Staff is courteous
Got the tofu soup with beef, came with rice and some sides. Cooked to order and really good and fresh. The lady was very nice and accommodated my friend who is a vegetarian by making her ramen soup with vegetable broth. Amazing customer service and price is good. Looks like a dive but kitchen is cleaned and the food is good. Will come back and try spicy pork with ramen
I haven't been here for lunch in a while so decided to grab a burger again. My go to is always the bacon cheeseburger with fries. It never goes wrong, the burger is decent size and you get plenty of fries. You just can't find a deal like this in San Francisco anymore.
The lady owner is super nice. Food smelled so good. The bulgogi was okay. Kinda dry. I heard their burgers are good though. I will still recommend this place.
I ordered 2 chicken teriyaki plates and one order of fried pot stickers. I work up the street and I haven't been to this place in YEARS. So I went for me and my coworker and we both loved our food. It's good for the price. It does get really busy at 12-1230 but it wasn't a crazy wait probably 10min just a lot of bodies standing around waiting. Overall very good couldn't take a picture of the food because I forgot
City Lunch is a great lunch restaurant in an industrial area of Hunter's Point. Most people who come here work in the surrounding areas. The place has a Korean BBQ influence which makes everything tastier, in my opinion. Lots of flavor. My coworker and I like to come here for the lunch bbq plates, as it is a nice hearty sized plate and hits the spot. She usually gets the spare-rib plate, where I usually get the Spicy BBQ chicken plate. I usually place my order and by the time I get there (7-10 min), it's already ready to go. Makes it easy to pick up a fast, hot meal for lunch and support a small local business.
Been driving by this spot for the past few months and it's totally a dive in an out-of-the-way location. Saw it had a Yelp so dropped an online order to give it a shot. Ordered the spicy beef soup and the cheesesteak for a hopefully representative sample of their Asian and non-Asian offerings. The soup was chock full of Asian goodies (some things that I don't remember the non-Asian name for) and tofu and beef. It was a bit thin in mouthfeel, but it was properly salty/spicy/flavourful. Came with a takeaway container of rice, kimchee, and bean sprouts. Definitely something that would be great on a spring/winter day. Soup came in a quart container and was definitely enough for two (2) lunches. The cheesesteak was actually very interesting and complex. I was expecting something along the lines of a Gino's/Pat's or one (1) of the local spots, and was pleasantly surprised that when it arrived on a soft roll with some bell peppers sautéed in and a bit of provo to hold it together. What made it interesting and complex was a garlicky-sweetness to the meat that was at times cloying and other times unnoticeable. Then I realized that it was likely their bulgogi that they repurposed into the cheesesteak. It was both surprising and whimsical because it almost switched between a cheesesteak and a bbq steak sandwich on alternate bites. It was an average size and the add-on frites were quite costly (considering) but they gave a good quantity of frites so it was filling. Frites were soggy when I finally ate them, but what do you get from takeaway... I'll definitely go back to try other offerings. They have an eclectic menu and seems relatively reasonable. The only downside is that they put a sticker on my bag that was not removed easily. =D
Good lunch option. Spicy pork was marinated well (a touch too fatty). Chicken was grilled nice but a tad dry.
COVID-19 TAKEOUT Most of us like pretty, shiny new things. We chase after the new new, aesthetics, and the most photogenic dishes for photo ops. We order a $100 box of food that's tweezified with flowers, microgreens, and 24k gold flakes, and take 98745264928 pictures of it, at every possible angle...standing on chairs and squatting ass-to-the-grass for a side or upshot. By the time, we're done, the food is cold and we're basically eating $100 worth of leftovers. Ok, ok, I haven't gone thaaaat far with the pics, but I've seen people do it. BUT, I'm 100% GUILTY of chasing the new new and photogenic dishes so I have to check myself sometimes. Some of these hip places may be ok after the pandemic but what about small mom and pop shops with no investors and no social media presence, not even a website? They need our help more than ever so I'm dedicating my 2,600 review to City Lunch, a Korean-American dive serving American diner and Korean food. I had this bookmarked for when I have field meetings in the area but never made it until COVID. This old skool, hole-in-the-wall gem is located in the industrial area of Bayview. Parking is scarce but you can call in your order, double park on the quiet side street, and run out to grab your food (saw a customer do this). A construction truck was just pulling out of a space so I got lucky. On the menu are American Breakfast ($4-$10), Fish & Chips ($10), Burgers ($5.50 - $8), Sandwiches ($6-$7), Korean BBQ Rice Plates ($10-$15), Korean Soups ($8-$12). Cooked-to-order. They also have prepared foods in steamed trays: ribs, chicken, and egg rolls. Grab 'n go pastries are available on the counter. Cc's accepted. Takeout only. F O O D * Daeji Bulgogi: Spicy Pork w/ rice, salad ($10): https://bit.ly/3o7KzWV --Spicy Pork: During COVID, I've been eating K food nearly every week and this one was solid. The pork was tender with a good ratio of lean to fatty meat in a savory, mildly spicy sauce with a touch of sweetness. --Rice: On-point. Texture was slightly sticky. --Salad: Fresh with a delicious creamy miso dressing. To be nitpicky, the salad could have been drained better because there was a pool of water on the bottom of the container. * Galbi Tang: Beef Bone Soup w/ rice, banchan ($12): https://bit.ly/2Tgz2WR --Soup: You receive three meaty pieces of English cut short ribs swimming in a rich, beefy broth garnished with ribbons of egg and green onions. I didn't get to enjoy the soup until 30 minutes later so the dangmyeon (sweet potato) noodles were soft from sitting in the piping hot broth. If you can't eat it ASAP maybe you can request them to separate the noodles? --Banchan: Kimchi, cauliflower, and bean sprouts. The crisp bean sprouts with sesame oil were my fav of the three. S E R V I C E Staff is friendly and fast. My order was ready in about 5 minutes so a great option if you're pressed for time. Masks were properly worn and hand sanitizer was available at the register. This is a true mom and pop, family-run business. Looks like the son (?) runs the FOH and in between breaks from phone orders is studying. His mom (?) came out from the back to hand him the Galbi Tang and you can see her warm smile. From the reviews below, they even donate meals to frontline hospital workers! Overall, solid 4 star food but I'm bumping it 5 stars because hole-in-the-wall, mom and pop businesses in SF are like a unicorn. If you're passing through Bayview/driving along Bayshore Boulevard/3rd street and looking for a tasty, humble, and wallet-friendly meal, give City Lunch a try!
